Design for eLearning

Tabitha's Way Food Pantry

About: This blended solution includes an eLearning module and color-coded job aids for the 5,000 yearly volunteers serving at a community-based food pantry's two locations. The pantry needed to fix several problems: training inefficiencies, food waste, food safety errors, and excessive demands on staff members' time.

Kidding Season

About: This concept project resulted from the time I spent volunteering on a goat ranch during kidding season. I reimagined and transformed the on-site ILT training I had received into an eLearning solution. Two questions informed the course's design: How could this solution reduce the demands on the ranch manager's time, and how could volunteers be better prepared for their first shift?

Implementing an Interview Strategy

About: This is a branching scenario concept project. Given a compilation of content, I identified the business goals, generated a list of interview questions I would ask SMEs, created a design document and storyboard, incorporated mentor feedback, and developed the branching-scenario course in Storyline.

Design for Animated Video

Space Exploration Project

The Project

  • The client's goal was to provide opportunities for students in Grades 3-8 to learn space content through interactive instructional animated videos linked to their website.

  • As of September 2022, the videos were publicly available on the client's website.

My Role

  • Instructional designer and scriptwriter (I did not do the video development.)

  • Researched specific content that met the client's content requirements (terrain vehicles, growing food in space, constellations, and launch vehicles)

        • Sourced open-source images, videos, and animations from NASA

  • Ideated a story and characters that became the narrative framework for the storyboard and script

  • Wrote a storyboard and mocked up visuals to illustrate concepts for the client

Storyboard

  • The storyboard required detailed mockups, explanations, and suggestions for graphics and character movement.

Space Exploration: Quest 1

  • The client made this video publicly available on their website at 4-h.org (Space Exploration: Quest 1)

  • See a screen recording below. The PLAY BUTTON is located in the lower left-hand corner.

NOTE: I did the instructional design and script writing for this video. I did NOT develop the video.

Space Exploration: Quest 2

  • The client made this video publicly available on their website at 4-h.org (Space Exploration: Quest 2)

  • See the screen recording below. The PLAY BUTTON is located in the lower left-hand corner.

NOTE: I did the instructional design and script writing for this video. I did NOT develop the video.

Pollinator Series

The Project

  • The client's goal was to convert eight of their printed Pollinator content guides into an interactive instructional animated series, which would include filmed video segments demonstrating how to make hands-on, at-home projects.

  • The client's intent is to make the Pollinator video series publicly available on their website.

My Role

  • Instructional designer and scriptwriter (I did not develop the videos.)

  • Converted existing written content into designs that included animated characters, interactions, instructions for demonstration video creation, and assessments

  • Ideated a story and characters that became the overarching, cohesive narrative framework for the series

  • Wrote narration scripts for the animated characters as well as the demo video voice-overs

  • Wrote eight detailed storyboards, suggesting images, stock video clips, sound effects, and artistic effects. The storyboards also included detailed instructions on how the demo videos ought to be filmed.
